Statement

The landscape of my mind is often jumbled and chaotic; words fall from mind to mouth and tumble out cluttered, confused - but in the book form, they find clarity. My process employs hand papermaking, printmaking, and bookbinding to organize my thoughts and communicate what I cannot otherwise.

While the crafts on their own are dear to me, I am able to capture my ideas more clearly when they come together into Artist Books. The book cues a private experience, a silent conversation between two beings. The book beckons its audience to draw near, to pause the rest of the world for a brief moment in order to hold it. This tactility invites intimacy, which is key to experiencing my work.

I am enamored with the patina of time; rounded page corners, notes tucked in the margins, covers worn threadbare by idle thumbs. We leave behind small portraits of our existence everywhere we go, most of all in the objects we handle. In this sense, it is important to me that my works are held and handled - even if that shortens their lifetime. My books are pieces of me and, as I was born to grow and age, so should they.
